Philadelphia Swim Pond Master Build

Philadelphia Swim Pond
Swim Pond

As part of our recent advanced training at Pondomonium,  the pond industry’s largest trade event of the year,  AquaReale had the opportunity to help build a large Spectacular Swim Pond in Illinois.

The customers originally wanted a big pond their kids could play in, but the more they learned about Swim Ponds, the more interested they were.

They also had storm water issues which would be helped by the pond.  Downspouts were included as part of the system, which incorporated an overflow that drained into a drainage system.  This allows to the pond water to fluctuate by as many as 8 inches, allowing there to be an additional 8000-gallon storm water runoff into the pond before it overflows.

The Swim Pond is a 30 x 50 swim pond with a 20 x 20 wetland filter and a steam connecting the wetland filter to the pond, all getting drawn into a 15 x 15 intake skimmer bay.  In addition, the pond takes runoff from four properties, harvesting rainwater which leads to a bubbling rock in the front of the house.

The pond uses wetland filtration to filter a large body of water where people can swim and they can have fish as well as a clean body of water.  Instead of salt or chlorine, they use beneficial bacteria instead of harsh chemicals to keep the water clear

AquaReale recently built a Philadelphia Swim Pond, which was a conversion we did from a pool to a Swim Pond.  Contact us to see how we can help you get the Swim Pond/Recreational Pond of your dreams.

Stormwater Management issues?

Stormwater Management-- before

Do you have Stormwater Management problems?

We have seen lots, but nothing quite like we saw at the J’s house back in the spring.  We met the J family after they saw our lawn sign at another large Stormwater Management job.  Five different companies had been out to look at the job and not one had come back or offered a price.

The job is certainly a challenge…

Stormwater Management Challenge

The J Family’s big problems began 15 years ago when an additional house was built in front of theirs, as the top of a hill.  The J Family was on the bottom of the hill, right next to a golf course.  When the new house was built. the lost their buffer, which allowed more surface runoff to gush down the hill.

A hurricane a few years ago took care of the rest of the problem, eroding away a fair portion of the hill and created a giant 6 foot gulley.  The bottom of their property had a retention pond which  retained the run off.  Every time is rained more sediment went down and filled up the retention pond,

The water also left destruction in its wake. The water displaced many rocks until it looked like the backyard was strewn with loose rocks.

Stormwater Management Solution

AquaReale worked with an engineering firm to come up with a Stormwater Management solution to slow the water flow from the upper portion of the yard to the lower.  This solution was to stop the water at the top of the hill and redirect it into a pipe which goes directly to the bottom of the hill, avoiding an more erosion.

The retention pond will also be cleaned out, leveled out and seeded with a grass meadow mix.  The grasses will create deep roots and stabilize the soil so water can be absorbed quicker. This will allow for the water coming through the pipe to be better absorbed.
Stay tuned as we complete the project and post some great after shots.  Here’s some before shots in the meantime…

A unique approach to stormwater management

Philadelphia Stormwater Management

We recently did a project for Philadelphia’s Urban Tree Connection, through a grant provided from Media Star Productions.  Here, AquaReale co-owner Matthew Reale guides us through the project and how it was built to maximize stormwater management.

Stormwater Management: situation and solution

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT: Situation and Solution

ourpond

We already provide information about stormwater management on our site, but I wanted to share our story as well

Our house has always had water issues, with the roof, gutters, everything.  We got everything pretty much under control. but the rain water was still pooling on our front lawn.

AquaReale decided to do a stormwater solution that also looked great. The water comes down from our front roof, so we put a pipe underground which takes the water down to the front of our house.

We have a 500 gallon reservoir there , topped by a pondless waterfall.  The water recycles through the pondless waterfall , leaving us with a beautiful waterfall with our rain water stored underneath! Here’s a night photo with the lighting around it.

Let’s see what we can do to fix YOUR stormwater issues!

Fall is the best time to address many stormwater issues.  It’s easier to see problems and determine solutions when the ground is bare.
